11/23/2025 – November Open Mic

BARDS AGAINST HUNGER

Poets and poetry lovers are invited to celebrate gratitude, with the local poetry community.

The St. Johns Cultural Council and St. Augustine PoetFest present a monthly poetry open mic with Ancient City Poets.

THE NOVEMBER OPEN MIC WILL BE ONE WEEK EARLY – NOVEMBER 23RD
The last Sunday of November happens during Thanksgiving weekend this year, so they’ll hold reading at the Waterworks on November 23rd! The Waterworks is located at 184 San Marco Avenue, St. Augustine, Florida 32084.

They will be collecting canned food and other non-perishable items for a local food bank. Bards Against Hunger is a national project. In 2013 a poetry group on Long Island, NY decided to host a poetry reading to gather food for a local food bank. The poets who attended like the idea so much that they turned it into an annual event. Ancient City Poets have been invited to participate locally here in St. Johns County.

The sign-up sheet for the open mic will be available at 2:30 PM on the event day. At 3 PM, the facilitator will call to the podium the first 15 names on the sheet. Each presentation should be limited to five minutes maximum, to allow everyone time to share. The mic will be turned off a 4:30 PM to allow everyone time to network and socialize.

FLORIDA STATE POETS ASSSOCIATION (FSPA)
Help spread the word about the Ancient City Poets. We are the local St. Johns County chapter of the Florida State Poets Association (FSPA). These gatherings qualify as the monthly chapter meeting. The monthly readings are open to all. You do not have to be a member to share at the podium. Ancient City Poets is a community of poets and poetry lovers who have gathered in the Nation’s Oldest City, on the last Sunday of the month, since August 2009. Filling out the membership form and paying the small annual fee is a great way to support the F.S.P.A and tap into a huge network of poets in Florida, and beyond!
