Let’s gather at the Waterworks in costume for poetry and prizes.
Poets and poetry fans will gather on October 25th at The Waterworks (184 San Marco Avenue, across from the Main Branch of the St. Johns County Library). Poets of all skill levels are given an opportunity to share their poems with a loving and supportive audience.
We will award books by local authors in three prize categories: Best Dead Poet, Scary Literary, and Most Creative. Share poems about the Halloween scene or the horrors of everyday life. You do not have to follow this theme, it is only a suggestion. Give us two or three of your polished poems or share fresh ink from your notebook. Invite a friend or two or three to cheer you on. Whatever you do, do not ghost this reading! Maxwell Carrillo will be the guest facilitator for this spirited edition of the Ancient City Poets open mic.
A sign-up sheet will be available at 2:30 and the open mic will start at 3:00 PM. Readers will be called to the podium in the order their names appear on the list. The mic will be turned off at 4:30 to allow the last 30 minutes for a meet and greet and networking.
Let your poetic words flow through the Waterworks and through the streets of St. Augustine.
The Waterworks is a historic building generously provided to Ancient City Poets by the City of St. Augustine and the St. Johns Cultural Council
FLORIDA STATE POETS ASSSOCIATION (FSPA)
Help spread the word about the Ancient City Poets. We are the local St. Johns County chapter of the Florida State Poets Association (FSPA). These gatherings qualify as the monthly chapter meeting. The monthly readings are open to all. You do not have to be a member to share at the podium. Ancient City Poets is a community of poets and poetry lovers who have gathered in the Nation’s Oldest City, on the last Sunday of the month, since August 2009. Filling out the membership form and paying the small annual fee is a great way to support the F.S.P.A and tap into a huge network of poets in Florida, and beyond!
