Thank you everyone for an amazing St. Augustine PoetFest last weekend (April 09-11,2026). Let keep the National Poetry Month momentum going with our open mic on the last Sunday of April.
Poets and poetry fans will gather on Sunday April 26th from 3-4:30 PM at the Waterworks (184 San Marco Avenue, across from the Main Branch of the St. Johns County Library). Poets of all skill levels are given an opportunity to share their poems with a loving and supportive audience.
Readers are invited to present poems that are powerful and passionate in the name of National Poetry Month. The theme is meant as a writing prompt and it is your choice if you want to follow the theme or not. Give them two or three of your polished poems or share fresh ink from your notebook. Invite a friend or two or three to cheer you on.
A sign-up sheet will be available at 2:30 and the open mic will start at 3:00 PM. Readers will be called to the podium in the order their names appear on the list. The mic will be turned off at 4:30 to allow the last 30 minutes for a meet and greet and networking.
Let your poetic words flow through the Waterworks and through the streets of St. Augustine. The Waterworks is a historic building generously provided to Ancient City Poets by the City of St. Augustine and the St. Johns Cultural Council
FLORIDA STATE POETS ASSSOCIATION (FSPA)
Help spread the word about the Ancient City Poets. We are the local St. Johns County chapter of the Florida State Poets Association (FSPA). These gatherings qualify as the monthly chapter meeting. The monthly readings are open to all. You do not have to be a member to share at the podium. Ancient City Poets is a community of poets and poetry lovers who have gathered in the Nation’s Oldest City, on the last Sunday of the month, since August 2009. Filling out the membership form and paying the small annual fee is a great way to support the F.S.P.A and tap into a huge network of poets in Florida, and beyond!
